The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. by Chairman Janna Lutz.

SMOKE DETECTOR ORDINANCE

Mr. Alunni presented to the Committee a revised smoke detector ordinance that would require the installation of photoelectric smoke detectors in new dwellings. Research has shown that a photoelectric smoke detector, in a smoldering fire producing thick dense choking smoke, outperforms a non-photoelectric smoke detector. A photoelectric smoke detector, in a smoldering fire, can alert a warning signal 12-30 minutes faster than a non-photoelectric smoke detector.

There was discussion, comments were heard, and questions were answered.

Moved by Mrs. Evans, seconded by Mr. Jacobs that we recommend to Council that they pass this legislation. The motion carried unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
