VILLAGE OF CHAGRIN FALLS
PARKS COMMISSION
December 21, 2009

Members present: deConingh, Lutz, Zalba

Also present: Tim Lannon

In the audience: Connie DeGood, Wendy Naylor, Beth Skeel

The meeting convened in Council Chambers in Village Hall at 8:35 A.M.

BEAUTIFICATION
Connie DeGood and Wendy Naylor presented their proposed budget for 2010, itemizing costs for annuals, perennials, and shrubs, as well as needs for spraying, mulching, watering, pruning, and transplanting in the downtown park; also, the request for a dedicated, consistent maintenance person to work at least two times per week in the garden bump-outs throughout the growing months. They also asked that the sawhorses at Triangle Park be stored somewhere other than at the apex of the triangle.
A concern was the availability of the budgeted funds throughout the 2010 growing season; it seems the 2009 budget was exhausted with expenses other than those submitted by Mrs. DeGood. Janna will look into what happened with funds for the Triangle Park boulder/shrub installation.
Another concern was watering: could the Service Dept. water the urns merchants seem to ignore?
A total of $2500 was requested for the 2010 Beautification budget.

RIVERSIDE PARK
NatureWorks grant for playground improvements: The commission asked that the plans supplied by CT Consultants be adjusted to reposition the swings, tucking them into the space closer to the current brick walk so that they don’t jut into the center of the park so much; also, to add a few benches for parents to supervise their children. Tim Lannon said revised plans could be e-mailed to each commissioner for further consideration and approval; he would like to wrap up the bidding documents and send them to ODNR.
The Jaycees will be asked to help with the spreading of topsoil and grass seed.
The entire project will commence after Art by the Falls, rather than in two parts as suggested at the November meeting.
In January/February, the commission needs to determine the variety and placement of two shade trees owed to the Village by the Jaycees.

2009 ACCOMPLISHMENTS – 2010 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
2009 Accomplishments – Okay
2010 Objectives – Should include exploring viable ways to raise funds for the redesign/repair of the steps leading from Riverside Park to the library and the Stairway to the Falls/Natural Falls Observation Landing.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 AM.

NEXT MEETING:
