VILLAGE OF CHAGRIN FALLS
PARKS COMMISSION
August 23, 2011
Members present: deConingh, Lutz
Also: John Brockway, Jeff Snedeker
The meeting was convened in Council Chambers at 8:39 AM.
MINUTES
It was moved and seconded that the July 26, 2011 meeting minutes be approved.
TRIANGLE PARK
• Farmers Market – Janna has again contacted Susan Harris White about proper storage of the plastic street barriers at the Triangle point.
• Brick pavers – A number of pavers are disintegrating, but replacing them does not make sense since there is not a strong base under the center plaza. Jeff Snedeker and John Brockway said everything, including the sidewalks, needs to be redone, but right now there is no money for such a project.
RIVERSIDE PARK
• Replacement of trees destroyed by beavers – Jeff Snedeker said that this fall Davey Tree will install new trees (probably three).
• Drinking fountain – Anne will call the Water Department about repairing it.
• Grass restoration – Jeff reported that the Village is not satisfied with the turf restoration and therefore Briar Hill Landscape Company will return to scarify the soil and over-seed. It is to be hoped that this work will occur during the last week of September, after Chagrin River Day on Saturday, September 24 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
• Picnic tables – John Brockway reported that the Service Department will continue to repair the wooden picnic tables as time permits. The purchase of a new wooden table, using Mayor Brick’s discretionary funds, was briefly discussed but no conclusions were made.
• Movie Nights by the Falls – This Jaycees-sponsored event has concluded for the season. Anne will contact Steve Miller about its success and plans for next year.
BELL STREET PARK
Looks great but needs a little weeding.
STAIRWAY TO THE FALLS
Greatly improved following power washing and re-staining.
RIVER RUN PARK
• A wooden picnic table is on the list for repairs.
• Until the whole section where flooding is taking place can be re-graded, the muddy area near the drinking fountain cannot be addressed.
BEAUTIFICATION
Beth Skeel, Janine Bauman, and Anne deConingh, will meet with Connie DeGood on Tuesday, August 30 to discuss plans to continue Beautification efforts.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:57 AM.
NEXT MEETING:
Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 8:30 AM in the Village Hall Council Chambers.
