The Chagrin Falls Police Department offers several safety and informational programs. Among them are:
Safety Pup, a rather large ‘pup’ who teaches children about various safety issues has been seen all over town from the elementary schools to the Metro Parks and safety town. Children adore him and are always asking if they can take him home!
G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) – G.R.E.A.T. is a project that focuses on middle school students. Classes are taught on laws, conflict resolution and anger management as well as goal setting.
Safety Town is a program that has been offered to kindergarten aged children from several years by the Chagrin Falls Police Department. This program teaches children about bicycle and pedestrian safety. It also addresses the emergency 911 and when and how to use it.
Choices – A program that focuses on positive verses negative behaviors in the areas of self-esteem, conflict resolution, decision-making and drug abuse. The program also addresses the effects that family, peers and the media have on young people making those decisions. The target group for this program is middle schools students but it can be tailored to address both younger and older students.
Third Grade Safety Belt Program – A unique program offered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety through local police and sheriff departments. Third grade students from around the state are being sworn in as Ohio Safety Belt Deputies. These students are earning their badges by learning the importance of wearing safety belts through direct contact with law enforcement officers in their community.
Bike Safety – Educational Programs designed to provide youth with information on traffic issues and the proper use of helmets when riding.
Child Safety Seat Program – Four out of five child safety seats are installed incorrectly. The Chagrin Falls Police Department has an Officer specifically trained to inspect child safety seats to make sure they are properly installed in your vehicle. If you would like to set up an appointment to have your child’s seat installation checked or would just like some questions answered call Officer Scott Safenovitz at 440-247-7321.
High School Senior Projects – In order to provide the best possible educational experience to high school seniors the Chagrin Falls Police Department in cooperation with the Chagrin Falls School system provides an internship for students interested in law enforcement or criminal justice studies.
Police/Citizen Ride Along – Citizens ride with law enforcement officers during their duty hours to gain a better understanding of the patrol officers and the role they play in making communities safer.
Bike Patrol – A crime prevention and community relations initiative that provides accessibility to officers on bicycles to patrol more ground than foot patrols. This promotes good public relations as well as excellent patrol coverage.
If you would like information regarding any of these programs please contact the Chagrin Falls Police Department at 440-247-7321.
